2021 ANC TO PROCEED AS SCHEDULED

With a clear desire to get the sport moving again, Strike 3 Bowling and Tenpin Bowling Australia have today confirmed that the ANC will proceed as planned, starting Monday.

With Tasmania currently only closed to Victoria and NSW, along with the fact that no state or territory has closed its borders to Tasmania at all this year, makes the venue for this year’s championship the safest in the country.

Strike 3 Bowling Managing Director Ashlee Perry said “Whilst we would love to have everyone here in Hobart, it remains important that we get the sport back playing again and support the vast majority of players that can still attend.  Cancellation would be a disaster for the sport and we should be very grateful that the ANC is being held in Tasmania, seeing it is the safest state in the country at the moment.  If it had remained in either Melbourne or Sydney, it would have been cancelled weeks ago”.

The recent running of the National Disabilities Championship provided another example of a national event proceeding without the ideal situation in place.

“Whenever and wherever possible, we want events to occur for those bowlers that can compete”, explained TBA CEO Rohan O’Neill. “We understand the situation is not perfect, but unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world situation at the moment with the ongoing presence of COVID-19 in our lives. If we wait for the perfect situation to appear, we may be waiting a while”.

The 2021 ANC kicks off Monday with team practice before the President’s Junior Interstate Shield gets underway Tuesday morning.
